Environment

Driving an #SMWasteFreeFuture through responsible waste management, education, and community action.

The Program on Environment drives a #SMWasteFreeFuture through responsible waste management and community education.

The program implements innovative initiatives, including the Electronic Waste Collection Program, monthly Trash to Cash Recycling Market, and RDC Segregation Bins, along with regular Coastal Cleanups and an internal paper recycling campaign.

It also supports global initiatives like Earth Hour and Earth Day by partnering with government agencies, business allies, and local communities—including organizations such as DENR, WWF Philippines, GUUN Co. Ltd., and the International Coastal Clean Up Group—to foster a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Program Highlights

#SMWasteFreeFuture

An initiative that promotes responsible waste management through key programs such as the Trash to Cash Recycling Market, where communities can exchange recyclables for cash, and RDC Segregation Bins, which make waste sorting easier in SM malls. The Plastic Waste Collection and Electronic Waste Collection programs provide dedicated drop-off points for proper disposal, preventing pollution and promoting sustainability.

Regular Quarterly Cleanups & The International Coastal Cleanup

In 2024, with the support of 16 SM Supermalls nationwide, 27,000 SM employees and volunteers contributed to a waste-free future by collecting over 155,000 kg of trash.

Additionally, SM Mall of Asia and SM By the Bay conduct quarterly cleanup activities in the bay area, led by mall employees, tenants, security, and janitorial personnel.
